OUR HISTORY

OMTI was born in late 2016, where teachers and students alike from a school district located in the Columbus suburbs desired to create a community theatre program focusing on cutting-edge adaptions of popular musicals with Broadway-caliber productions.

OMTI was officially formed in January 2017. After finding the perfect cast of 33 talented young performers, our debut production, OMTI's Legally Blonde: The Musical, was ready to go. The show was helmed by director David Bahgat, choreographed by Maggie Taylor (Elle Woods, Legally Blonde: The Musical National Tour), and joined by musical director Zac DelMonte. During OMTI's Legally Blonde's three weeks of rehearsal, OMTI was graciously welcomed by the Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus for its rehearsals and productions. Our students enjoyed working with Broadway veteran and Ohio native Beth Nicely (42nd Street, Something Rotten!, Bullets Over Broadway) in tap-dancing and performing arts sessions. OMTI's Legally Blonde, ran from July 27-30, 2017 and welcomed over 1,000 guests. The performance opened to rave reviews and received eight nominations from BroadwayWorld.com, including Best Local Musical. Learn more about OMTI's Legally Blonde: The Musical here.

OMTI announced its sophomore production, OMTI's Band Geeks, in December 2017. Under the direction and choreography of Marcus Davis, the show was the Central Ohio premiere of the hilarious musical-comedy. OMTI's Band Geeks ran June 22-24, 2018 featuring 29 student performers. Director of the award-winning Marysville Show Choir "Swingers Unlimited" Jeremy Alfera joined as the musical director for OMTI's Band Geeks. The production returned again to the Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus and saw nearly 1,100 attendees. Learn more about OMTI's Band Geeks here.

OMTI's first fall production, OMTI's A Chorus Line, was announced the summer of 2017 and debuted that August. With a cast of 19 students, OMTI celebrated a successful run for OMTI's A Chorus Line from September 22-24, 2018. Learn more about OMTI's A Chorus Line here.

OMTI announced its third summer production, OMTI's Chicago, in November 2018, which premiered in late June 2019.

OMTI's fourth summer production, OMTI's Heathers: The Musical, will debut in June 2020.
